Joel Klein, born 1954 in NYC currently resides in Tempe, Arizona.  Joel got involved with Photography at 8 years of age.  In the mid to late 70s, he studied Photography and Art at the City University of NY, where he also assisted with instruction in darkroom techniques while doing his independent studio projects.  His work has won awards in The City of Tempe photography shows.  His photographs are found in numerous publications, used on a variety of websites and are hanging in several Arizona Restaurants and Offices.  He studied with Marcia Resnick, (a prominent NYC Photographer) and Tod Papageorge, (also a prominent NYC photographer, author and former head of Yale's graduate photography department from 1979 to 2011) both of whom Joel credits as being an influence on his work.  Joel is certified in Photoshop.  He is also a former member of NAPP and a Professional Photography Alumni of NYIP.  In addition to his photographic skills and training, he holds degrees in Electronic Engineering Technology and Business Administration.

Joel values the use of traditional photography methods, believing that the less image manipulation, the better.  Aside from a few “darkroom” techniques, he believes the photographer should focus on the image they want captured using the lens, lighting and composition rather than through computer enhanced manipulation.

Joel’s photographs include many genres: World and Streets, Artistic Images, Landscape, Animals and Life, Architecture and Events.

Joel has been influenced by Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Steichen (both of whom furthered his obsession with the Flat Iron building in NYC), Ansel Adams, Walker Evans, Diane Arbus, Garry Winogrand, Richard Avedon (in the American West series), Joel Meyerowitz and Brassai (born: Gyula (Julius) Halász).
